A word about Native American products....

We have seen those websites advertising "authentic Native American products" and they are located in some city with one enrolled tribal member named on their website and then a bunch of people listed as 'applied for membership' or 'part Cherokee'. We have never quite figured these people out, since,

  • We are located on the reservation, that is, on the tribal lands of the Spirit Lake Nation,
  • We are all enrolled tribal members, in fact, our parents applied for tribal enrollment for us when we were born, so we are not quite sure what the problem is with those other guys.
  • Not a one of us is descended from a Cherokee princess. Everyone of our artists, our finance manager, store manager, CEO and everyone else associated with Spirit Lake Gifts is an enrolled member of one of the Northern Plains Tribes. Most, about 90%, are Spirit Lake Dakota Sioux. The rest are primarily Turtle Mountain Chippewa, with a few who are enrolled in other Sioux Tribes such as Standing Rock or Rosebud.
Click here to go to our gallery of Native American beadwork. We have earrings, of course, but also beaded necklaces and barrettes. Beaded lighters make nice gifts for both men and women. Our beaded pens are always appreciated by your favorite teacher, the person in your life who is writing that novel, or your mother-in-law who is addicted to crossword puzzles.
Star Quilts of all sizes - art with a function - to keep you warm, decorate your home, or simply hide that ugly couch! Star quilts are also a deeply-rooted part of Dakota culture, used in give-aways, pow-wows, funerals and ceremonies at the one-year anniversary of a death. All of our star quilts are made on the reservation by tribal members.
Artwork, traditional and modern. We sell original artwork and prints, framed and unframed, by our local artists featuring a variety of themes. Drawings in pencil, like the one at right, are most common, but we do offer a range of media including water color, pastels and oil paint. Also on this page are miniature teepees and an example of our pendleton blankets.
Dreamcatchers and other traditional crafts.
Our shipping policy: All items are shipped USPS ground at no extra cost. Overnight delivery is only guaranteed by Federal Express and only if the order is received before noon central time. (Did you not read the part about us being located on the reservation? Click here for some pictures of our reservation. Does it LOOK like it is near a FedEx office?) Overnight mail from the U.S. Postal Service is available only in North Dakota and parts of South Dakota. Everywhere else requires two days for delivery, no matter what they tell you. If you absolutely positively must have it overnight, shipping cost will be the cost of your order plus the FedEx cost, plus $20 because a driver will need to make the 26 mile round-trip to the nearest FedEx drop box. There is no extra charge above the cost of shipping to your region for two-day service, since there is a post office located on Fort Totten. For orders above $500, shipping is free.

Questions? Comments? Email us! (We don't have FedEx but we do have wireless DSL!)
